1. Michel Gondry

    Gondry mid-Q&A

With his new film “Thorn in the Heart” showing at the film festival, Michel Gondry was in town and stopped by for a Q&A.

Besides talking about the film, he gave an insight into his creative process; dreams (and hence sleep) are the secret for his idea generation, and he talked about how he has trained his brain to more effectively recall dreams the next day…

He was also asked for his opinion on the effect that the availability of creative tools and equipment to the general population has on public expression.  Whilst acknowledging the benefits of this, he interestingly lamented on the progressive loss of emotional memory - digital cameras, camcorders, Twitter and other tools are fantastic for documenting and sharing people’s experiences, but people are becoming so preoccupied with telling people ABOUT what they are doing that they aren’t fully DOING it.  The emotions that one feels during a moment get lost in the pursuit of the perfect photograph or video clip…

    Interesting man.  Thick accent.
